Wang praised by calling Abdullahian of Iran

China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi called Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahi on Monday, the day after the Iranian military's drone and missile attack on Israel. He also urged not to increase the tension in the Middle East region.

Incidentally, Iran has an extreme conflict with Israel over the Palestine issue. That conflict has escalated since the start of an Israeli offensive in Gaza on October 7.

In this ongoing hostilities, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) bombed the Iranian embassy in Damascus, the capital of Syria, on April 1. 13 people were killed. Among the dead were two senior commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the elite wing of Iran's military, Mohammad Reza Zahedi and Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi.

Israel has not yet claimed responsibility for the attack. However, the evidence is clear that the attack was carried out by the IDF.

Last week, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Israel must be punished for the attack.

Then, on Saturday night and Sunday, Iran's military launched more than 300 drones and missiles at Israel. No casualties were reported in the attack. Most drone missiles have been destroyed by Israeli forces before they hit. However, it is reported that Iranian drones have succeeded in hitting 9 Israeli installations.

In a telephone conversation with Wang Yi on Monday night, Abdullahian complained and said that the UN Security Council did not respond effectively to the attack on the Iranian embassy and that Iran has the right to defend itself.

He also said that the "brief" and "symbolic" attack was carried out by the Iranian military to warn Israel.

In response, Wang Yi said that China has strongly condemned Israel for the attack on the Iranian embassy in Syria, and Beijing believes that Israel has committed serious violations of international law through this attack, which is unacceptable.

He also praised Iran for not launching a massive destructive attack on Israel, saying that Tehran did not lose its restraint (even during the attack) and maintained a friendly policy towards local and neighbouring countries, which is truly commendable.

Later, in an interview given to China's official Xinhua news agency, Wang Yi said, "Beijing thinks that Iran's recent attacks on Israel are the result of Israeli forces' brutal operation in Gaza." At the same time, Beijing believes that Iran can protect its independence and sovereignty without provoking regional instability.
