AI children are now being made!
First came the AI (artificial intelligence) version of girlfriends and pets. Chinese researchers have created AI children! The Beijing Institute for General Artificial Intelligence created that virtual child. It can carry on normal dialogue as well as understand context and adjust during dialogue.
You can say, ChatGPT can do all these things. But what makes Tong Tong unique in China is that it can learn, adapt and interact with its virtual environment. It can even detect and react to human emotions.
An experiment revealed some simple abilities of Tong Tong. For example, cleaning spills, fixing bent picture frames or moving chairs to high places is no problem for him. It can do these things independently without human instructions.
Its creators hope that one day it may lead to Artificial General Intelligence or AGI. That is, the AI child will have all human characteristics. For example, individual cognition or knowledge acquisition, decision-making, social interaction and emotional expression.
But why bring it up as a child?
According to the developers, if a fully developed AGI is that of an adult, Tong Tong's abilities are comparable to that of a four-year-old child. Moreover, humans fear superintelligent AI but love children.
AI babies may seem a little strange at first, but for those who can't afford to have children of their own, it could be a way out. Parents who have lost a child may be able to ease their grief in this way. With enough information, they may even be able to create a digital entity of a missing child.
But in this case, protection from AI mistakes should also be considered. For example, how would it feel if your AI baby suddenly changed its personality? Or even if he stops working altogether, your emotions may take a big hit. Moreover, many questions arise in developing a relationship with an AI capable of generating thoughts and emotions independently.
