New Delhi summoned the German diplomat

George Enzweiler, the senior diplomat of the German Embassy in the country, commented on the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. After that, he was summoned by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. Indian media Anandabazar Patrika reported this information on Saturday.

According to the report, the German diplomat said he hoped the "independence of the judiciary" and "fundamental democratic values" would apply to Kejriwal's trial as well.

However, his comment was not taken well by New Delhi. According to news agency ANI, India's External Affairs Ministry views the German diplomat's comments on Kejriwal as "interference in the country's internal affairs".

However, the German diplomat's comments were not opposed, he was summoned to the Foreign Ministry office in New Delhi on Saturday. Although nothing is officially known about this, the diplomat was seen leaving the office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in South Block on Saturday morning.

Citing sources in the ministry, the media reported that he was summoned and asked to refrain from commenting on India's internal affairs in the future. "We view such comments as an attempt to interfere with our judicial process and the independence of the judiciary," the foreign ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

Enzweiler is the Assistant Head of the German Embassy in India. On Kejriwal's arrest, he said, 'Like any accused person, Kejriwal also deserves an independent and impartial trial.

He should get all kinds of legal assistance without any restrictions. At the heart of the rule of law is the assumption that the accused is innocent—first. This principle also applies to him (Kejriwal).”

According to sources in Anandabazar, Aam Aadmi Party (UP) chief Kejriwal was arrested around 9 pm on Thursday in connection with the Delhi Excise corruption case. He spent the night in the office of the country's economic intelligence agency ED.

As per the rules, he was produced in court within 24 hours. Kejri's case was heard on Friday by the special CBI court's Judge Kaveri Bawejar Ejalas.

Center Additional Solicitor General SV Raju argued in court on Friday for the ED. He claimed, the "Kingpin of excise corruption" is Kejriwal. He was then sent to seven-day ED custody by the Special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court. He will remain in ED custody till March 28. The ED had requested to take the Delhi Chief Minister into their custody for 10 days.
